At the Sydney Paralympics, Tanni returned won another four gold medals in the m, m, m and metres. Her final Paralympic Games as an athlete was Athens , where she won gold in the m and m taking her medal tally to 11 golds. Her total Paralympic Medal tally is 11 gold, 4 silvers and 1 bronze and added to that 5 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals at World Championships.
Daughter Carys was born in February At the age of 2 she saw her mum win her last two gold medals at the Athens Paralympic Games and was often seen at the side of the track supporting her mum and dad whenever they competed. These days Carys herself is involved in sport and Tanni and Ian have become the taxi drivers and support team. What was it like for you?
That was it. It was just about being good. What is it that sets them apart? Are they trying to prove something? But it was about proving to myself that I could be good: that I could focus on a goal, train really hard and achieve it. And it was a little bit about proving it to my family. I need to be better. I mean, the things I did in my career, like arranging my wedding day to fit in with my competition schedule!
I missed Christmases and birthdays. My sister based her wedding around my season so that I could be there. Watching people achieve the best they can and win within the rules is amazing — and I think it teaches you a lot about life, actually. And you can still do it and be a nice person. It can be. And some people choose to break the rules a little bit and some choose to break the rules a lot.

There are times when I look back to see how I can learn, and there are certain races I lost that I think it would have been nice to have won. Or it might come, but probably not in our lifetime.
I was there. You were on Question Time last night! I thought I looked quite nice. You get people who want to chat. And you do get people who just want to have a go. Still, I guess you are widely seen as a national treasure. Does that carry its own burden of expectation? How are you? I was better than her. Mum and Dad brought us up to have confidence in trying things.
